Fever HC Talks Caitlin Clark's Injury and 'Level of Physicality' from WNBA Opponents
Indiana Fever star guard Caitlin Clark appeared to suffer a groin injury near the end of Tuesday night's 85-77 victory over the Connecticut Sun, raising more concerns about how she fares against physical defenses.
After the game, Fever head coach Stephanie White told reporters that Clark "just felt a little something in her groin, so we'll get it evaluated and see what happens from there."
White added that it appeared that Clark injured her right groin. A strained left groin sidelined her for five games recently, and she missed another five games earlier in the year with a left leg injury.
Clark's inconsistent availability has led to an uneven season for Indiana, which ranks sixth in the WNBA with a 12-10 record. White pointed to the physical play that she's been subjected to since she entered the league in 2024, noting that the team has to put her in a better position to overcome it.
"There's a level of physicality that they're able to play with against her," White said. "I knew it as an opponent, and I see it as her coach. I'm not exactly sure why, but it just is what it is. We've gotta help her learn to adjust and use it against them in certain ways, we've gotta find some ways to make it a little bit easier for her. But the level of physicality overall in our league has been at a different level than it's been for a long time."
The Fever will be back in action on Wednesday night against the New York Liberty (14-6), so it can be expected that Clark will be on the sidelines to avoid aggravating her injury further.
