DeSean Jackson Explains How Deion Sanders Has Helped Him Prepare for CFB Job in Video

Taylyn Hadley Jul 13, 2025

Former NFL star wide receiver DeSean Jackson shared how Deion Sanders has helped prepare him for his new role as head coach at Delaware State University.

"Coach Prime, to me, has been tremendous. I’m going through my process of being an HBCU coach at Delaware State — learning the ins and outs, what to expect and what not to expect," Jackson said on Well Off Media (17:15 mark). I think the biggest thing was how vulnerable he was, how real he was... Everything I’m going through, he’s already been through. So he knows the ins and outs, and he knows exactly what to prepare me for."

Jackson, a 2008 second-round pick, is a three-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion with the 2021 Los Angeles Rams. Over 15 seasons in the NFL, he led the league in yards per reception four times and posted a career-best 1,332 receiving yards with nine touchdowns in 2013.

Now stepping into coaching, the former NFL standout credits Sanders for guiding him along the way — and credits him for helping him get here.

"Without him, honestly, I probably wouldn’t even be in this position" Jackson said. "So I tip my hat to him. Seeing what he did — we’re trying to follow the footsteps he put down."

Delaware State opens its season on the road against Delaware on Aug. 28 under new head coach DeSean Jackson.
