ESPN's Andy Brassell shared the news, noting his club Sporting won't be happy to learn their biggest star will at the very least miss the start of the new season and may see his transfer value drop tremendously:
The 23-year-old is reportedly being followed by a number of top clubs around the continent, including Real Madrid, Arsenal and Manchester United, per the MailOnline's Anthony Hay, and he was one of the top performers for Portugal during the Under-21 European Championships.
Bleacher Report's Sam Tighe and Ryan Bailey recently took a look at what the defensive midfielder brings to the table, and they agreed he would be a fantastic signing for just about every Premier League team:
Sporting could have cashed in during the summer, and given his obvious potential and young age, Carvalho would have netted the club a significant transfer fee. But now that he'll certainly miss the start of the new season, interested clubs won't be throwing the cash around so eagerly.
There's little doubt he'll return to his very best soon enough, but for a foreign club, an injury like this is a powerful bargaining chip. If Carvalho moves, he won't have a pre-season to adjust to a new league, greatly hampering his ability to contribute to his new team during his first season.
