The Oklahoma City Thunder will enter the upcoming season as the hunted after becoming the second-youngest team to ever win the NBA championship.

This marked the seventh straight year that the league had a new champion, continuing an era of parity that previously had been unseen in the NBA. However, Oklahoma City is set up to potentially be the league's next dynasty.

The Thunder signed star guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to a four-year, $285 million contract extension after his historic season in which he won the scoring title, was named NBA MVP and NBA Finals MVP. The team also signed star center Chet Holmgren to a five-year max extension worth up to $250 million, keeping its core intact for the foreseeable future.

After Oklahoma City's dominant 68-14 showing in 2024-25, it's hard to imagine anyone stopping the young champions during the upcoming year.

Still, a slew of teams reloaded this summer in hopes of knocking the Thunder from their perch.

The Houston Rockets acquired star forward Kevin Durant from the Phoenix Suns, firmly cementing them as one of the top contenders in the Western Conference. The Los Angeles Lakers found their center, signing former No. 1 pick Deandre Ayton to pair with the star duo of LeBron James and Luka Doncic. The Los Angeles Clippers added some firepower by signing star guard Bradley Beal and acquiring veteran forward John Collins.

In the Eastern Conference, things appear to be wide open after Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum and Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton both suffered a torn Achilles during the postseason, leaving the last two conference champions without their best players.

The Cleveland Cavaliers will be motivated to make up for their disappointing playoff exit after finishing with the best record in the East at 64-18. The New York Knicks are hoping the hiring of head coach Mike Brown helps take them over the top.

The Philadelphia 76ers could be back near the top of the conference if former MVP Joel Embiid manages to stay healthy. The Milwaukee Bucks surprisingly released star point guard Damian Lillard in the wake of his torn Achilles, but star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo will keep them in the mix.

It all makes for another season full of excitement and drama, and fans now know when the upcoming slate of games will be unveiled.
