Deion Sanders Declines to Discuss Health, Says He's 'Living Good' After Medical Issue
Deion Sanders declined to speak much on his health during a press conference on Wednesday at Big 12 media days.
"I'm really not going to tell you much," he told reporters. "I'm not going to talk about my health."
The Colorado head coach has been battling an undisclosed health condition and has been away from the team, though his messaging on Wednesday wasn't one of concern.
"I'm living good," he said. "I'm living lovely. Not a care in the world."
According to Brent Schrotenboer of USA Today, Sanders missed "Colorado's annual high school and youth football camps in June. He also canceled a speaking appearance in Florida on June 8 and wasn't able to make it to Travis Hunter's wedding in Tennessee May 24."
Sanders said a number of Big 12 coaches reached out to him during that time:
As for Wednesday's appearance, Sanders was accompanied by former Dallas Cowboys teammate Michael Irvin and touched on a number of topics during his time at the podium:
He also made it clear that Colorado will have a quarterback competition heading into the 2025 season between senior Kaidon Salter and freshman JuJu Lewis.
"We brought both of them because we don't know who is going to start," he said.
In two seasons at the helm, Sanders has led the Buffaloes to a 13-12 record. Last season in the school's return to the Big 12, Sanders led Colorado to a 9-4 record and a berth in the Alama Bowl, though the team blew a chance to reach the Big 12 Championship late in the year.
For Sanders, taking that next step is paramount.
“We want to win," he told reporters. "We want to win at all costs. We want to be in the (Big 12) championship game. That’s all we're playing for. We play to win. We don't play just to compete."
