Larry Fitzgerald's Son Devin Commits to Notre Dame Over Clemson, Stanford, UCLA
3-star wide receiver Devin Fitzgerald, the son of Arizona Cardinals legend Larry Fitzgerald, will join Notre Dame as part of the Class of 2026.
Fitzgerald announced his commitment during a 247Sports livestream on Saturday, choosing Notre Dame over his other final choices of Clemson, Stanford and UCLA.
Larry took to social media on Sunday to let his son know how "proud" he is:
The younger Fitzgerald is listed at 6-foot-2 and 205 pounds out of Brophy College Preparatory in Phoenix, Arizona.
He is ranked as the No. 72 wide receiver and No. 7 player from Arizona available in the class by 247Sports composite rankings.
247Sports national recruiting analyst Greg Biggins wrote in June that Fitzgerald "has made a big jump in his development over the last year and especially this off-season."
"He was always polished in terms of his route running and ball skills, which isn’t surprising when you consider his father Larry Fitzgerald was one of the most technically sound receivers to ever play the game," Biggins wrote. "To see the jump in athleticism has been encouraging."
Larry Fitzgerald, who will be eligible for the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2026, played two seasons for Pitt before entering the NFL as the third pick of the 2004 draft. He earned 11 Pro Bowl nods over his 17-year pro career with the Cardinals, and retired after the 2020 season having averaged a career 12.2 yards per catch.
His son's commitment to Notre Dame marks the second recruiting victory in as many days for head coach Marcus Freeman.
4-star wide receiver Kaydon Finley, the son of Green Bay Packers tight end Jeremiah Finley, announced his commitment to Notre Dame on Friday over Texas and Texas A&M. He is ranked as the No. 14 wide receiver available in 247Sports composite rankings.
Freeman will now hope to benefit from Fitzgerald's experience working with his father as they prepare to add another top target for either CJ Carr or Kenny Minchey, who are both competing to replace Riley Leonard at quarterback this offseason.
