Jeremiah Smith Says 'I Promise' OSU Won't Lose to Michigan for Next 2 Seasons

Timothy RappJul 1, 2025

Ohio State wideout Jeremiah Smith had a freshman season for the ages, catching 76 passes for 1,315 yards and 15 touchdowns while helping lead the Buckeyes to the national championship.

But he's still not over the team's loss to Michigan in the regular season.

"I'm not a sore loser, but I hate losing, and losing to that team up north was pretty crazy," he told The Athletic's Manny Navarro. "In the end, I think it really helped us play the way we did in the playoffs. But I didn't want to go to Ohio State and lose to that team up north. I just hate them. Just something about them. For the next two years, I promise you, I will not lose to them. I can't lose to them in the next two years."

Michigan, which finished the season 8-5, stunned Ohio State on Nov. 30, winning a 13-10 rock fight. Ohio State was ranked No. 2 at the time.

The loss kept the Buckeyes out of the Big Ten title game, though it ultimately didn't keep them out of the College Football Playoff, and the rest is history.

But even in a national championship season, the memory of the Michigan loss haunts Smith and the rest of Columbus.
