Unlike last year's tournament, which the Red Devils won in a final against Liverpool following a group stage, 2015 will see a league format utilised in the International Champions Cup.
Each team will play four matches, and the club with the most points after all of the fixtures will be crowned champions.
Three points will be awarded for a win in regulation time, while a draw will lead straight to a penalty shootout, the winner of which will receive two points and the loser will receive one, per Christopher Harris of World Soccer Talk.
Barcelona surely enter the tournament as favourites, having bagged the La Liga, Copa del Rey and Champions League treble at the end of the 2014-15 season.
However, as ever with pre-season matches, there is an element of unpredictability, with new signings to bed in for most teams and new tactics to be worked out ahead of the coming competitive term.
The Camp Nou giants face a tough task, as they will meet Galaxy, United, Premier League champions Chelsea and Fiorentina—and all without Lionel Messi following his Copa America travails.
The Red Devils have a tremendous chance to defend their title, especially as they have new signings Memphis Depay, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Matteo Darmian and Morgan Schneiderlin to call on:
It is difficult to know how the quartet will fare in their opening matches for the club, but there is much to be excited about as a United fan.
The impressive performances of Louis van Gaal's side in last year's tournament ended up being a false indication of their form, as they then started very poorly in the Premier League.
But there is no doubt that United will be eager to defend their title in America.
Jose Mourinho's Chelsea come up against New York Red Bulls in their first fixture of the tournament, in which they will hope to pick up a victory ahead of challenging clashes with PSG and Barcelona.
It is set to be a fascinating tournament, with some of the world's biggest names competing against each other. Challenging to predict but set to feature plenty of goals, the 2015 International Champions Cup should be very entertaining.
