76ers Reportedly Decline Jared Butler's Contract Option Ahead of 2025 NBA Free Agency

The Philadelphia 76ers declined guard Jared Butler's team option for the 2025-26 season, according to PHLY's Kyle Neubeck.

Butler's team option was worth just over $2.3 million, per Spotrac.

The 76ers acquired the 24-year-old and four future second-round draft picks in exchange for veteran Reggie Jackson and a conditional 2026 first-round pick in a Feb. 6 trade with the Washington Wizards.

Butler was on a two-way contract at the time of the swap, but Philadelphia converted it into a standard NBA deal following the move.

He appeared in 28 contests with the 76ers before the end of the regular season, averaging 11.5 points, 4.9 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 42.6 percent from the field and 35.2 percent from behind the arc.

Butler gradually received more playing time as injuries piled up for Philadelphia and the team fell out of the Eastern Conference postseason picture. In 17 starts, he recorded 13.8 points and 5.7 assists per game on 42.7/35.9/86.1 shooting splits.

Butler was initially selected with a second-round pick in the 2021 NBA draft, suiting up for four teams across his first four years in the association.

It likely would have been difficult for him to carve out a rotation spot with Philadelphia during the team's 2025-26 campaign, as star Tyrese Maxey and 2024 first-round pick Jared McCain are expected to play heavy minutes at both guard spots.

The 76ers also selected Baylor guard VJ Edgecombe with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NBA draft and are reportedly looking to retain shooting guard Quentin Grimes in restricted free agency.
