Quentin Grimes Contract Reportedly Remains a 'Priority' for 76ers in NBA Free Agency

Adam WellsJun 19, 2025

After a terrific two-month stretch with the Philadelphia 76ers to close the 2024-25 season, Quentin Grimes will be looking to cash in with a new contract this summer.

Per NBA insider Marc Stein, the 76ers still consider a Grimes' extension to be a "priority" in the offseason.

The Sixers do have some leverage since Grimes will only be a restricted free agent, giving them the ability to match any potential offer sheet he might receive from another club.

Philadelphia's offseason finances will be impacted by contract decisions for Eric Gordon, Andre Drummond and Kelly Oubre Jr. Those three all have player options for next season worth a combined $16.9 million. They also have $9.5 million in non-guaranteed salaries for Lonnie Walker IV, Jared Butler and Justin Edwards.

Per ESPN's Bobby Marks, if Gordon, Oubre and Drummond all opt in, the Sixers would be at the luxury tax line and just $7.5 million under the first apron.

Grimes was acquired by the 76ers from the Dallas Mavericks prior to the trade deadline in February. The deal came after Dallas was unable to reach agreement on an extension with the 25-year-old prior to the start of the season.

Per ESPN's Shams Charania and Tim MacMahon, the two sides never came close to an agreement because Grimes was seeking a deal with an average annual salary in the range of the $12.8 midlevel exception and the Mavs offer was closer to $27 million over three years.

Philadelphia's injury woes pushed Grimes into the starting lineup after the trade. He responded by averaging 21.9 points on 46.9 percent shooting (37.3 percent from three), 5.2 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game in 28 appearances (25 starts).

Despite playing on four different teams in his first four NBA seasons, Grimes has shown he has good skill as a shooter to fit in any type of system. He has a 37.5 percent success rate from behind the arc on 5.2 attempts per contest in 243 games.
