Celtics Take Amari Williams After Trade Back in 2025 NBA Draft, Fans Discuss Potential
Amari Williams is heading to Boston.
The Boston Celtics selected Williams with the No. 46 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. This comes after the Celtics traded back with the Magic to get this pick and the 57th pick. The team selected VCU guard Max Shulga with the later pick.
Williams was a five-year collegiate player and played the 2024-25 season at Kentucky after spending his first four seasons at Drexel. The center averaged 10.9 points, 8.5 rebounds and 6.4 assists in 36 games for the Wildcats.
Fans took to social media to hype up the pick and project what impact Williams can have on the Celtics.
This selection comes after Shams Charania of ESPN reported that the Celtics were hoping to take forward Rasheer Fleming with the No. 32 pick but pivoted when the Phoenix Suns jumped them to take him at 31.
The Celtics add Williams in a move that addresses some losses they have taken in the frontcourt. The team notably dealt away center Kristaps Porzingis earlier in the week and are currently working to retain Luke Kornet and Al Horford.
The selection of Williams gives some more insurance if the team is unable to retain their free agents and adds depth to a room that currently consists of Xavier Tillman and Neemias Queta.
Shulga averaged 15.9 points, 5.9 rebounds and four assists in 35 games for the Rams in 2025. He will reportedly sign a two-way contract, per the ESPN broadcast.
