Nets Reportedly Trade No. 36 NBA Draft Pick to Suns for Future 2nd-Round Picks

The Brooklyn Nets traded the No. 36 overall selection in the 2025 NBA draft to the Phoenix Suns in exchange for two future second-round picks, according to ESPN's Shams Charania.

After making five additions in the first round of the draft on Wednesday, Brooklyn no longer owns any remaining 2025 picks entering Thursday night.

As for the Suns, they now hold the No. 36 choice to go along with the No. 52 and No. 59 overall picks in the draft.

While a high second-round selection is valuable for a Nets team with their sights set on building for the future, it likely would have been difficult for a Day 2 rookie to stand out in a large incoming 2025 draft class.

Brooklyn selected BYU point guard Egor Demin, French point guard Nolan Traore, North Carolina guard Drake Powell, Israeli point guard Ben Saraf and Michigan big man Danny Wolf with its five choices in the first round.

While there was some belief that the Nets could look to package their picks and trade up, general manager Sean Marks ultimately stood pat with each selection.

The Suns had an eventful first round of the draft, using the No. 10 overall pick that they acquired as part of the Kevin Durant trade with the Houston Rockets to select Duke center Khaman Maluach.

Phoenix wasn't done fortifying its frontcourt, trading for center Mark Williams in a deal with the Charlotte Hornets. The Suns gave up point guard Vasilije Micić, the No. 29 overall pick in the 2025 draft and a 2029 first-round pick to acquire Williams.

With Phoenix reportedly building around Devin Booker moving forward, it now has three second-round selections to search for players that can make an immediate impact as rookies.

In the latest mock draft from Bleacher Report's Jonathan Wasserman, Kentucky center Amari Williams was projected to be off the board with the No. 36 pick.

The second round of the 2025 draft will begin on Thursday at 8 p.m. ET.
