Blue Jays starter Kevin Gausman retaliated by hitting José Ramírez with a fastball in the bottom of the fourth. The Guardians star third baseman was removed in the top of the fifth.
Toronto announced Guerrero was diagnosed with a right forearm contusion and his X-rays came back negative. Ramírez's X-rays also came back negative and he was diagnosed with a forearm bruise.
The idea there was any intent behind Bibee's pitch is far-fetched. It was a frustrating inning for the Guardians in which they allowed three runs on three errors to fall behind 3-0.
Bibee had been erratic earlier in the inning, hitting Tyler Heineman with a changeup. Toronto's anger about the situation likely dates back to Wednesday's game when Guerrrero was hit with a pitch in the seventh inning by Cleveland reliever Jakob Junis.
The situation on Thursday never got to the point where the two teams converged on the field. Both benches received a warning from the umpires after Ramírez was plunked.
Fortunately for both teams, it doesn't seem like either player will miss an extended period of time after their X-rays returned negative.
Guerrero has picked things up after a slow start to the season. He is hitting .291/.402/.480 with eight homers in 48 appearances since May 1 entering Thursday's game.
Ramírez is the one consistent in Cleveland's lineup. The six-time All-Star entered the day hitting .318/.378/.516 with 13 homers and 20 stolen bases. Kyle Manzardo is the only other Guardians player with at least 10 home runs.
The two teams split the first two games of the series, with the Guardians winning 5-4 in 10 innings on Wednesday thanks to Ramírez's walk-off single. Guerrero homered in the fourth inning of that game.
