LSU's Garrett Nussmeier Compared to Brock Purdy, Tony Romo, Dalton By Daniel Jeremiah

Joseph ZuckerJun 26, 2025

NFL Network draft expert Daniel Jeremiah sees shades of multiple Pro Bowlers in LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, who's considered among top draft-eligible QBs in college football.

"I don't have a clean one-to-one comparison, but I do see elements of three different quarterbacks I've studied over the years," Jeremiah wrote. "Nussmeier's movement and delivery are reminiscent of Tony Romo. His touch and deep-ball trajectory/accuracy gave me some Andy Dalton vibes. His competitive nature and physical frame compare favorably to Brock Purdy. Nussmeier's not a perfect match for any of those three players, but it feels like he comes from the same quarterback family."

Patience paid off for Nussmeier, who didn't become the starter until his fourth season with the Tigers. He backed up Max Johnson as a true freshman and was stuck behind eventual Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels for two more years.

In 13 appearances in 2024, the 6'2" signal-caller threw for 4,052 yards and 29 touchdowns with a 142.7 passer rating. He ended the year on a high, going 24-of-34 for 313 yards, three touchdowns and an interception in a 44-31 win over Baylor in the Texas Bowl.

Much like Daniels and Joe Burrow did in their swan songs at LSU, there's a sense Nussmeier could improve further and surge up draft boards.

Draft guru Todd McShay sees parallels to another Pro Bowler, Baker Mayfield:

The 2025 NFL draft wasn't a banner year for quarterbacks. Cam Ward went first overall to the Tennessee Titans, but there was a sizable gap between him and the rest of the class.

Next year is shaping up to be a different story with Nussmeier, Texas' Arch Manning, South Carolina's LaNorris Sellers and Penn State's Drew Allar headlining the group.

With no consensus standout at this early juncture, the opportunity is there for Nussmeier to steadily position himself as the best available.
