Lionel Messi, Diego Luna Headline 2025 MLS All-Star Roster to Face Liga MX All-Stars
On Wednesday, Major League Soccer announced its All-Star Roster for its matchup against the Liga MX All-Stars on July 23, with the Inter Miami duo of Lionel Messi and Jordi Alba headlining the list.
Vancouver Whitecaps FC led all teams with four selections (forward Brian White, midfielder Sebastian Berhalter, defender Tristan Blackmon and goalkeeper Yohei Takaoka).
While Messi is easily the league's best player and biggest star, it's actually Philadelphia's Tai Baribo—one of the forwards selected for the MLS All-Stars—who leads the league in goals, with 13.
Messi, it should be noted, has an impressive 10 goals and six assists and is among the frontrunners for the MVP after winning it last year. Only Dreyer has more goal contributions with 17 total (eight goals, nine assists) this season.
Among the goalkeepers, Minnesota United FC's Dayne St. Clair and Takaoka are tied with a league-leading eight clean sheets (though both are aided by solid defenses and each have only allowed 14 goals on the season).
Brad Stuver is only one clean sheet behind that pair and has an impressive 63 saves.
Other notable inclusions are Charlotte FC forward Patrick Agyemang, who has been one of the best players for the USMNT during the Gold Cup; 2024 MLS Best XI selection Evander; reigning MLS Young Player of the Year and two-time All-Star, Diego Luna; and regular USMNT contributor and three-time All-Star, FC Cincinnati defender Miles Robinson.
The MLS All-Stars will be looking to get some revenge on their Mexican counterparts after losing last season's matchup between the two leagues by a 4-1 margin.
