Kevin Durant Denies 'Bulls--t Narrative' About Steve Kerr Relationship, Trade Rumors
Kevin Durant denied that his past experience with Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr played a role in his not wanting to reunite with the team prior to the 2025 NBA trade deadline.
The Ringer's Logan Murdock reported Monday that Durant didn't always see eye to eye with Kerr during their three seasons together. Murdock added that Kerr was "among the reasons Durant opted not to return to Golden State at the trade deadline."
The 15-time All-Star responded on X to call this a "bulls--t narrative" that continues to persist:
Durant told ESPN's Malika Andrews in February he "just didn't want to move" in the middle of the season. His stance wasn't centered around the Warriors specifically but more about seeing things through with the Phoenix Suns.
Even if KD had vetoed Golden State in particular, that would've been an understandable position.
The 36-year-old clearly wasn't fulfilled during his Warriors run. A subset of fans continue to discredit his two titles and Finals MVPs from that period, and that infamous joke by then-general manager Bob Myers at Golden State's 2018 title parade symbolized KD's outsider status within an organically built contender.
Myers is gone, and the roster has turned over quite a bit since then. Everyone is a little older and wiser, too. Having Durant, Draymond Green and Stephen Curry all in the twilights of their careers might've been a strong unifying force.
Still, Durant's preference at the trade deadline doesn't have to reflect anything bigger about him or the Warriors.
