2025 NBA Draft Scouting Report for Boston Celtics No. 28 Pick Hugo Gonzalez

B/R NBA StaffJun 25, 2025

The Boston Celtics have selected Hugo Gonzalez with the No. 28 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.

Gonzalez, a 6'7" small forward, most recently played for Real Madrid. His team was in the 2025 ACB playoffs, so he was unable to travel to Treviso, Italy, for measurements at the NBA's abbreviated draft combine for international prospects.

However, scouts saw some production late in his past season that helped his draft stock.

Overall, Gonzalez's team should come to admire his physical foundation and defensive outlook. There will just be more guesswork than usual when it comes to projecting other elements of his game, including shooting consistency and on-ball development.

That's what happens when you're unable to attend any NBA workouts.

Gonzalez ranks No. 26 on B/R NBA draft expert Jonathan Wasserman's 2025 Prospect Big Board.

Realistic Pro Comparison: Jonathan Kuminga

Golden State Warriors v Minnesota Timberwolves - Game Five

The scouting reports on Gonzalez and Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga are relatively similar.

Both forwards have plus size and athletic abilities at the small forward spot. Both are also best inside the arc or attacking the rim.

Like Kuminga, Gonzalez needs to work on his shooting consistency. That will be a key factor in raising his NBA ceiling.

Strengths

  • Physical Tools/Athleticism
  • Defense
  • Shotmaking Potential

Scouts and fans alike wish there were official NBA measurements available for Gonzalez, but nothing about his frame fails the eye test, especially when combined with his everlasting defensive motor.

The shotmaking potential is also passing the eye test. He's a sub-30 percent shooter from three over his career, but he's reliable from the line, and his mechanics look like something an NBA assistant coach can work with.

Weaknesses

  • Creation
  • Shooting Consistency
  • Offensive Value

As much as Gonzalez's shooting "upside" presents as a strength, his current sample size leaves you wondering how quickly that potential might convert into production.

Until it does, his value on offense could fluctuate between inconsistent and non-existent.

A more consistent shot, combined with any improvement he can show creating for himself, will go a long way.
