2025 NBA Draft Scouting Report for Washington Wizards No. 6 Pick Tre Johnson
The Washington Wizards have selected Tre Johnson with the No. 6 pick in the 2025 NBA draft.
Johnson delivered flashes of his star upside during his lone season at Texas, earning SEC Freshman of the Year, Second-Team All-SEC and SEC All-Freshman honors.
His 19.9 points-per-game average ranked 21st in the nation. And his 39.7 percent shooting from deep nearly cracked the top 40.
Johnsonโs frame is reminiscent of Shai Gilgeous-Alexanderโs, which helps him slither into space and score in the mid-range.
The Texas product will need to sharpen his decision-making and shot selection to avoid inefficiency in the pros. But the tools are there: Confident jumper, smooth pace and the ability to shift gears off the bounce.
With time and development, he could become a dynamic deep threat and one of the class's most attractive long-term guard prospects.
And with real shot-creation chops, Johnson could end up competing with the best scorers in this draft class at the NBA level.
Johnson ranks No. 10 on B/R NBA draft expert Jonathan Wassermanโs 2025 Prospect Big Board.

Realistic Pro Comparison: Tyler Herro
1 of 3
Like Tyler Herro, Johnson excels as a perimeter scorer. Their long ball forces defenses to often sell out, and from there, they both have the advanced footwork, shotmaking skills and touch around the key to take advantage.
Of course, Johnson will have to continue building on his playmaking and driving ability to reach Herro's level. The skill set is there, though, especially if he proves to be a good decision-maker at the NBA level.
Strengths
2 of 3
Shotmaking: Johnson has developed elite shooting skills for deep shots, movement threes and other self-created shots off the dribble.
Creation: He demonstrates sharp footwork and timing for creating separation into balanced jump shots.
Competitiveness: Johnson isn't shy and wants the ball late in games. He's got the type of confidence that can fuel stretches of takeover scoring. If he puts everything else together at the pros, this confidence could tip him over into star status.
Weaknesses
3 of 3
Shot Selection: Johnson's game is very reliant on tough shotmaking, as he doesn't get to the free-throw line often.
Playmaking: He shows some passing flashes here and there, but there is no mistaking him for a combo guard right now. He'll need to be paired with another guard who can be relied on to create for teammates.
Paint Scoring: When Johnson did try to attack off the dribble, he didn't show a great feel for what route to take or how to finish plays in traffic.
