2025 NBA Draft Scouting Report for San Antonio Spurs No. 2 Pick Dylan Harper

B/R NBA StaffJun 25, 2025

The San Antonio Spurs have selected Dylan Harper with the No. 2 pick in the 2025 NBA draft.

Harper earned third-team All-Big Ten honors at Rutgers this past season and was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman team.

The guard also set a Rutgers all-time scoring record for a true freshman, finishing with 564 total points.

His 19.4 points per contest ranked No. 30 in the nation.

At the combine, Harper measured 6'4½" without shoes, a top-15 mark among guards. He posted a 6'10½" wingspan, which ranked fourth at his position, and recorded the fifth-longest hand length among guards.

Offensively, the 19-year-old is not known for shooting, but he can make tough jumpers when he’s in rhythm. The shotmaking flashes offer hope his perimeter game can evolve.

Defensively, Harper didn’t show much resistance at the point of attack and will need to improve his effort and awareness.

Still, the scoring instincts, physical tools and early production suggest starter status could be his floor.

Harper ranks No. 2 on B/R NBA draft expert Jonathan Wasserman's 2025 Prospect Big Board.

Realistic Pro Comp: Cade Cunningham

Harper and Cade Cunningham are jumbo creators and lead ball-handlers. Neither is an explosive athlete, but they're both advanced at getting to spots, driving downhill and hitting tough jumpers.

Cunningham, a similar-sized 6'6", 220 pounds, has steadily improved and just made his first All-Star Game at 23 years old and in his fourth season.

It's likely that his All-Star journey is just beginning, and this is the type of career path Harper would love to follow.

Strengths

2 of 3
USC v Rutgers

Creation: Harper excels at creating advantages, getting downhill and scoring off drives. He’s a confident attacker who gets out in transition, finishes creatively and scores through contact with strong body control.

Paint Scoring: He's an excellent finisher and improviser who uses his body and creativity effectively inside the arc.

Shotmaking Potential: Though not a shooter, Harper has the shotmaking skill and confidence to get hot and knock down tough or contested jumpers.

Weaknesses

3 of 3
COLLEGE BASKETBALL: MAR 09 Minnesota at Rutgers

Off-Dribble Shooting: Harper didn't shoot a high percentage off the dribble and didn't make many floaters. Adding those to his bag is very doable considering his age and overall skill set, and it could be a key part of raising his already high ceiling.

Playmaking: Harper is far more wired to score than set the table. Defenses will game-plan around his desire to get to the rim, which will force him to take shots he isn't great at executing yet.

Defense: Rutgers was a poor defensive team, and Harper didn't provide consistent resistance from the point of attack. There will be a learning curve navigating screens and staying square with opposing ball-handlers in the pros.
