
Multiple People Die After Falling From Upper Stand of Stadium at Algerian Soccer Match
Three people died after falling from the upper stand of Stade du 5 Juillet in Algeria after a Ligue 1 match between MC Alger and NC Magra.
Per Reuters, the Algerian ministry of health said in a statement posted on Facebook that three people were confirmed to have died and 81 others were injured in the incident.
"The Beni Messous University Hospital received 38 injured people, while three deaths were recorded," the Algerian ministry of health statement said. "Ben Aknoun Hospital also received 27 injured people, while Bab El Oued Hospital received 16."

Algerian media outlet La Gazette du Fennec (h/t the Associated Press) noted a security barrier in the stadium broke as fans were getting ready to celebrate MC Alger clinched the Ligue 1 title.
MC Alger posted a statement on Instagram (h/t Reuters) offering condolences to one of the supporters who died: "It is with great sadness and sorrow and with hearts that we received the news of our supporter Younes Amguzzi, who passed away after falling from the upper stands."
The two other deaths, which were confirmed later in the day, have not yet been commented on by the club.
Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune also offered condolences and a fast recovery for the injured fans, per Reuters and the AP.
MC Alger and NC Magra played to a 0-0 draw on Saturday in the final match of the 2024-25 Ligue 1 season.
