Caitlin Clark Scores 11 as Fever Lose to Valkyries, Drop to 6-6 on WNBA Season
Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever couldn't maintain an early lead over the Golden State Valkyries on Thursday night, falling by the final score of 88-77 at Chase Center.
Clark finished with 11 points, but shot just 3-of-14 from the field and missed all seven of her attempts from behind the arc. She grabbed seven rebounds and dished out nine assists, although she also committed six turnovers.
The Fever fell to 6-6 on the season.
Indiana started Thursday's contest on a high note, jumping out to a 21-12 lead at the end of the first quarter.
While Golden State remained within striking distance just before halftime, the Fever never ended up trailing during the second quarter and maintained a six-point edge over the Valkyries at the half.
Indiana appeared to be pulling away, opening the third quarter on a 10-3 run to lead by 13 points with just under five minutes remaining in the period.
Golden State quickly responded by capitalizing off turnovers by the Fever, cutting the deficit to four entering the fourth quarter. The Valkyries were unstoppable offensively over the final 10 minutes of action, scoring 33 points in the fourth.
Aliyah Boston finished with a double-double for the Fever by recording 17 points and 12 rebounds, but the rest of the starting lineup dealt with inconsistency from behind the arc and couldn't match her efficiency.
Indiana shot just 27.6 percent from three-point territory as a team and committed 17 turnovers compared to just seven for the Valkyries.
Golden State's bench also outscored Indiana's reserves 45-17.
Thursday's result was disappointing for Clark as well as a Fever squad that appeared to be getting on track, stringing together double-digit wins over the New York Liberty and Connecticut Sun prior to their loss against the Valkyries.
Indiana will now look to bounce back on Sunday against the Las Vegas Aces.
