Frankie Montas Likely to Make Mets Debut vs. Braves After Injury Rehab, Mendoza Says
Frankie Montas reportedly will make his New York Mets debut soon.
Per Mike Puma of the New York Post, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said the pitcher "will likely start" against the Atlanta Braves next week.
In December, the Mets signed Montas to a two-year, $34 million deal with an opt-out after the 2025 season. He suffered a lat injury in February, which kept him out for several months until he made a handful of rehab starts in recent weeks.

“This rehab process was actually pretty good. They did an amazing job with my lat," he said, per the New York Post's Mark W. Sanchez. "I would say this is probably, I would say the strongest my shoulder and arm has felt in a while.”
Montas has been a journeyman for much of his career. He debuted with the Chicago White Sox in 2015 before spending five and a half seasons with the Athletics. He was traded from the Athletics to the New York Yankees in 2022 and also spent the 2023 season with the Yankees, though he missed most of the year due to a shoulder surgery.
Montas signed with the Cincinnati Reds last season but was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers at the 2024 trade deadline.
Across 30 appearances with the Reds and the Brewers last year, Montas went 7-11 with a 4.84 ERA and a 1.37 WHIP. While it wasn't his best season, it was a step in the right direction after missing the majority of the 2023 season.
Now gearing up for his debut for the Mets, the 32-year-old will look to come out strong as New York chases more success following a great start to the season.
