Connor McDavid Talks Oilers Future, 'Need to Do What's Best for Me and My Family'
Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers just fell short in the Stanley Cup Final to the Florida Panthers for the second straight season, and the superstar spoke vaguely about his future with the organization Thursday.
"It's only been a couple of days since the season ended," he told reporters. "Take some time to regroup, talk to my agent a little bit and family and all that, and make some decisions whenever that time comes. But there's no rush on anything like that."

NHL Mock's Biggest Movers 🔄
McDavid is entering the final year of his eight-year, $100 million contract with the Oilers, setting up an important offseason in Edmonton. If McDavid isn't willing to enter extension talks with the Oilers, the team will have to consider fielding trade offers rather than facing the possibility of losing him for nothing in free agency a year from now.
It's the doomsday scenario for the Oilers, of course, who would prefer the seven-time All-Star and three-time Hart Memorial Trophy winner stayed with the team for the entirety of his career. The 28-year-old obviously wasn't willing to publicly express that sort of commitment on Thursday, however.
Whether it's via the trade market or in free agency, McDavid's availability would create a frenzy around the NHL. He's totaled 100 or more points in eight of his 10 NHL seasons, leading the league in goals in the 2022-23 campaign (64), in assists four times and in points five times.
He is indisputably the most talented offensive player in the NHL, the face of his generation of players and a future Hall of Famer. Every team in the NHL would want to add him. And it's clear he's frustrated with a second straight defeat to the Panthers in the Stanley Cup Final.
If McDavid believes this Oilers team has gotten as far as it is going to go and has run its course, a change of scenery would make sense. It's all setting up to be a very important summer in Edmonton as McDavid weighs his future options.
