Sun's Mabrey Has Technical Upgraded to Flagrant 2 After Scuffle vs. Clark, Fever

The Indiana Fever's 88-71 victory over the Connecticut Sun on Tuesday was defined by hard fouls, scuffles and tension, and there was reportedly more fallout from the aftermath Wednesday.

Alexa Philippou of ESPN reported the technical foul from Connecticut guard Marina Mabrey was upgraded to a flagrant-2 foul, which comes with a standard fine. Philippou also noted Fever guard Sophie Cunningham was fined for her hard foul on Jacy Sheldon in the final minute of the contest.

Despite the additional penalties, there were no suspensions handed out.

The Cunningham foul at the end was a culmination of a chippy game and resulted in a scuffle and three ejections.

In addition to Cunningham, Sheldon and Lindsay Allen of the Sun were also ejected following the fight. That it was Sheldon who Cunningham brought down with the hard foul was notable, as the Connecticut guard and Caitlin Clark had multiple back-and-forths throughout the game.

The most notable one came in the third quarter when Sheldon poked Clark in the eye while defending the Fever star, which prompted the Iowa product to push her counterpart away. That led to Mabrey knocking Clark to the ground.

While Mabrey was given a technical foul at the time, the league deemed it a flagrant-2 upon further review.

"I started talking to the officials in the first quarter, and we knew this was going to happen," Fever head coach Stephanie White told reporters. "You could tell it was going to happen. So, they've got to get control of it. They've got to be better."

As for the actual game, Clark once again led the way for Indiana with 20 points, six assists and two steals on 4-of-6 shooting from three-point range. It was her second game back from a quad injury that sidelined her for five contests, and she helped lead the Fever to a straightforward victory.

Natasha Howard also impressed in the win with a double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds.

Indiana clinched a spot in the Commissioner's Cup final with the victory and will face the Minnesota Lynx for the title.
