Karl-Anthony Towns' Top Trade Landing Spots After 2025 NBA Draft
While the first round of the 2025 NBA draft just finished, attention will quickly turn toward the league's other avenues toward roster improvements.
And since of those paths—free agency—isn't opened yet, we're fully focused on the other.
That's right, folks, it's trade-talking time, and there have already been some big names changing teams in recent days between Kevin Durant, Kristaps Porziņģis, CJ McCollum and Jrue Holiday.
It could open the door for more high-profile trades, including possibly New York Knicks star Karl-Anthony Towns.
A New Jersey native, Towns mostly impressed during his first go-round with the Knicks. That won't necessarily buy him another year with the 'Bockers, though, as his assertiveness and production didn't always show up on the playoff stage.
That said, there's still plenty to draw in the right suitor. It's simply tough to find many 7-footers as skilled as he is. He might cost a fortune, but there's a reason for that. Look no further for evidence of that then his sizzling 2024-25 stat line which featured 24.4 points, 12.8 rebounds (a career-high), 3.1 assists and 2.0 three-pointers, plus a pristine 52.6/42/82.9 shooting slash.
Those numbers are sure to attract someone, like perhaps the following three teams.
Detroit Pistons
1 of 3
Detroit's playoff breakthrough was fun and loaded with encouraging signs. The hard part, though, is the next step, elevating beyond a plucky first-round opponent. To pull that off, the Pistons need a better co-star for Cade Cunningham and someone who can help alleviate their spacing concerns.
Towns would check both boxes. He's a true difference-maker on the offensive end, and while he has his limitations on defense, the rest of Detroit's roster might have the length, athleticism and energy to cover a lot of those up.
Los Angeles Lakers
2 of 3
Towns might land on the optimistic end of L.A.'s trade budget, but the Lakers might have just enough assets and money-matching salaries to get a deal done. And while he isn't the lob-crusher many might envision the franchise pairing with Luka Dončić, Towns' ability to stretch the floor could prove even more beneficial for the Lakers' stars.
The three-star model has proved a tricky one under the collective bargaining agreement, but a trio of Towns, Dončić and LeBron James might have enough combined star power to pull it off. L.A.'s defense might take a hit, but that may not matter if the offense is pumping in 125-plus points per night.
Golden State Warriors
3 of 3
The Warriors are a long-shot destination for Towns, since his addition would require the subtraction of either Jimmy Butler or Draymond Green. They're still worth mentioning, though, because they clearly want a stretch big manning the middle, and Towns is one of the best in basketball.
A pick-and-pop game between Towns and Stephen Curry sounds like nightmare fuel for the rest of the league. There'd be no right way to defend it; all options would be bad. Plus, even if the Dubs' depth took a hit in a Towns trade, coach Steve Kerr would maximize whatever is left by keeping them moving through sprawling cutting lanes and exploiting all of the floor-to-ceiling passing windows.
