Alaric Jackson Not at Rams Minicamp Due to Blood Clots in Lower Leg, Sean McVay Says

Scott PolacekJun 17, 2025

Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay told reporters Tuesday left tackle Alaric Jackson did not travel with the team to Hawaii for mandatory minicamp because of blood clots in his lower leg.

This is not the first time the Iowa product has dealt with such an issue, as he missed the last nine games of the 2022 campaign due to blood clots.

McVay's update came after Los Angeles re-signed the left tackle to a three-year, $57 million contract this offseason, but the coach's focus was on more than just football during Tuesday's press conference.

"You pray for him to be able to have a healthy, safe recovery," McVay said. "And we're really just taking it a day at a time with him. There's a lot of examples of people that have had situations like this, but they're all still so uniquely independent in their own right. And so we're gathering information."

The Rams did sign D.J. Humphries to a one-year contract Friday, which the coach said was all about being "proactive about a contingency plan."

McVay also stressed the need for constant communication regarding the situation.

"There needs to be a lot of discussion and dialogue with [Jackson] and with the doctors about, most importantly, what's best for him as a human being," he said. "And then you talk about football after that. But what we are grateful for is that we were able to identify this based on his communication and get him on the appropriate medicine to make sure that he's as healthy as possible."

Jackson was an undrafted free agent but has been with the Rams since 2021 for his entire NFL career. He started 15 games in 2023 and 14 games in 2024 while helping lead the NFC West team to the playoffs in each season.

Pro Football Focus gave him an overall player grade of 78.3 last season, which was 18th of 140 offensive tackles in the league.

As for Humphries, he entered the league as a first-round pick of the Arizona Cardinals in 2015 and played with the team through 2023. He was a Pro Bowler in 2021, although he suffered a torn ACL late in the 2023 campaign and signed with the Kansas City Chiefs late in the 2024 season.

Humphries appeared in two regular-season contests for Kansas City.
