Kyren Williams, Rams Have Made Progress on Contract Extension, Sean McVay Says
Los Angeles Rams running back Kyren Williams is entering the final year of his deal, but the team is working on coming to terms on a contract extension.
Head coach Sean McVay told reporters Tuesday the Rams made progress in such talks, although he also didn't offer a significant update regarding how the discussions unfolded of late.
Last month, Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times reported the Rams and Williams' representation exchanged contract proposals. However, nothing official came of it, and all indications are the discussions are still ongoing.

For his part, the running back has not held out or offered much public pressure. In fact, he told Klein he was "feeling good" about the situation.
"Whether it happens now or I play out the season, I know it’s going to happen eventually," he said. "And so, time will tell. I just know I've got to do what I need to do each and every single day to make sure that it does happen in my favor."
There is no doubting Williams' status as the No. 1 running back on a depth chart that also features Blake Corum, Jarquez Hunter, Ronnie Rivers and Cody Schrader. What's more, the Notre Dame product is just 24 years old and figures to remain effective for the near future.
That only serves to increase his leverage, as does his performance from the last two seasons.
Williams was a Pro Bowler in 2023 with 1,144 rushing yards, 206 receiving yards and 15 total touchdowns in just 12 games. He then helped lead Los Angeles to the playoffs for the second straight season with 1,299 rushing yards, 182 receiving yards and 16 total touchdowns in 2024.
The Rams likely would have fallen short of the postseason without his presence in the backfield, and he helps take the pressure off veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford at this stage of his career.
Ideally for the NFC West team, he will continue doing that for years to come.
But that will first require a contract extension.
