Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton Expected to Make Injury Return vs. Angels, Aaron Boone Says
New York Yankees slugger Giancarlo Stanton is expected to return from his elbow injury during the team’s series against the Los Angeles Angels, according to manager Aaron Boone, per MLB's Bryan Hoch.
Boone said the designated hitter could be back in the lineup as soon as Monday or Tuesday.
It was first reported by Hoch ahead of the season that Stanton would be “slow-played” during Spring Training due to discomfort in both elbows. Boone later said the injury was similar to tennis elbow, noting Stanton had been dealing with the issue since last season.

Stanton was later downgraded with no set timetable for a return and no plans to resume baseball activities in “the near future,” according to The Athletic’s Chris Kirschner.
After months of rehabilitation on his elbows, PRP injections and a setback with a calf injury, the 35-year-old is finally eyeing his return after batting .233 last season with 21 home runs and 72 RBI.
Playing for the team's Triple-A affiliate to ramp up for his return, he is 3-of-11 with one double and four RBI over three games.
“His at-bats look good,” Boone told reporters. “He’s very detailed and particular about how he feels. He feels like his timing is pretty good right now. He feels up to speed on the fastball. My sense, in the little bit of communication I’ve had with him this week, is that he feels like he’s close.”
The Yankees are in the midst of their second series against the Boston Red Sox, with Game 2 set for Saturday night and Game 3 on Sunday. While Boone doesn’t expect Stanton to return for the series finale, he hasn’t ruled it out.
“I’m not necessarily expecting him playing (at Fenway Park) this weekend,” Boone told reporters. “But stranger things have happened.”
