76ers Reportedly Spoke to Spurs About Trade for No. 2 Pick amid 2025 NBA Draft Rumors
The Philadelphia 76ers are in a good position with the No. 3 pick in this month's NBA draft, but the team reportedly isn't satisfied.
According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, the Sixers "have engaged with" the San Antonio Spurs about trading up to the No. 2 pick. Philadelphia is reportedly "zeroed in on" four NBA prospects with the No. 3 pick, but the team still explored the possibility of moving up.
PHLY's Kyle Neubeck confirmed the Sixers have talked to the Spurs about a potential move up.
The Sixers reportedly held a private workout with Baylor guard VJ Edgecombe last week, and Scotto noted that they will host Rutgers wing Ace Bailey for a workout next week. NBA insider Jake Fischer recently reported that Edgecombe is considered a "prime candidate" to be drafted by Philadelphia with the No. 3 pick after his impressive showing when he met with the team.
"Edgecombe is said to have impressed with his work ethic, personality and interviews," Fischer stated. "He went to dinner with [team president Daryl Morey] and other Sixers higher-ups. Even Tyrese Maxey, sources say, flew in for the occasion. The Sixers are certainly intrigued by what type of defensive complement Edgecombe could provide their All-Star guard, sources say, in addition to his explosive upside on the offensive side of the ball."
The Spurs are widely believed to be targeting Rutgers guard Dylan Harper with the No. 2 pick, so the Sixers trading up presumably means they have some interest in Harper as well. The 19-year-old overtook his teammate Bailey as the No. 2 prospect in this year's draft class behind Duke star Cooper Flagg, who is projected to be selected first overall by the Dallas Mavericks.
The first round of the 2025 NBA draft will commence on June 25, but it's clear that Philadelphia will be exploring a slew of options between now and then.
