Puerto Rico's Baloncesto Superior Nacional league suspended former NBA player DeMarcus Cousins for the remainder of its season, per the Associated Press, after the Mets de Guaynabo center had a number of altercations with fans during a June 9 game.

Cousins was also fined  $4,250 fine, could be hit with a second fine of $5,750 and had his contract terminated by Mets.

"As an organization, we strongly condemn any form of violence or provocation, whether on or off the field," the team said in a statement. "Safety, respect, and sportsmanship are non-negotiable values for this franchise."

During the game, Cousins was seen grabbing his crotch area with his right hand near the a fan seated courtside before attempting to stick his hand in the fan's face. His teammates and officials intervened and he was ejected.

As Cousins left the floor, a number of fans heckled him and some threw drinks on him. He responded by angrily attempting to enter the stands, only to be held back by a small group of security guards, who eventually wrestled him through the tunnel.

Cousins, a four-time All-Star during his NBA career, has since played overseas in Puerto Rico, Taiwan and Mongolia. He was in his second season with Mets (his first came in 2023) and averaging 18.2 points and nine rebounds per game in the 2025 season, though the team has gone just 9-18.
