Fans Throw Drinks at DeMarcus Cousins on Video After Ejection from Game in Puerto Rico

Former NBA star DeMarcus Cousins had to be restrained after fans threw drinks at him following his ejection from a Baloncesto Superior Nacional game in Puerto Rico on Monday.

Cousins, who plays for the Guaynabo Mets, was booed heartily while making his way to the locker room after getting ejected. He momentarily grabbed a fan who flipped him off, prompting the four-time All-Star to flip the crowd off as well.

That led to drinks and popcorn getting thrown in his direction, which appeared to infuriate the 34-year-old. He had to be held back by police and security, and he was even tackled to the floor at one point to prevent him from going after the fans:

Guaynabo, which is coached by former Dallas Mavericks and NBA-championship winning guard J.J. Barea, went on to fall 101-91 to the Bayamon Vaqueros, who are stacked with former NBA talent such as Danilo Gallinari, JaVale McGee and Chris Duarte.

Prior to his ejection, Cousins had recorded 11 points, seven rebounds and five assists in 27 minutes, per LatinBasket.com.

Cousins is best known for his 11-year career in the NBA from 2010 to 2022. Originally the No. 5 overall pick in the 2010 NBA draft out of Kentucky by the Sacramento Kings, he went on to play for the New Orleans Pelicans, Golden State Warriors, Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Clippers, Milwaukee Bucks and Denver Nuggets.

He was a four-time All-Star and two-time All-NBA second-team selection, achieving the bulk of his success during his seven seasons in Sacramento.

Cousins tore his Achilles in 2018 and then tore his ACL in 2019, and he was never quite the same after those injuries.

From 2010 to 2019, he averaged 21.2 points, 10.9 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.2 blocks per game, but from 2020 to 2022, he put up just 8.9 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.7 assists per contest.

Since last playing in the NBA in 2022, he has continued to play professionally, spending time in Puerto Rico, Taiwan and Mongolia.

After leading the Taiwan Beer Tigers to a T1 League championship and being named T1 League Finals MVP in 2024, Cousins had a brief spell with the Selenge Bodons before returning to Puerto Rico for a second stint with Guaynabo this year.
