Cowboys' Trevon Diggs Hopes to Return from Knee Injury for Week 1 vs. Eagles

Andrew PetersJun 11, 2025

Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs is in the midst of recovering from knee surgery, and the star revealed an optimistic goal for his return on Wednesday.

Per Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News (h/t Pro Football Talk's Charean Williams), Diggs said he hopes to be on the field for the Cowboys' 2025 season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Diggs missed the final six games of the 2024 season, the final four because of a left knee injury, and had a chondral tissue graft procedure in January. After the surgery, ESPN's Todd Archer reported that Diggs could miss parts of training camp and possibly longer.

Along with Diggs' optimism about being ready for the start of the year, Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer provided a positive update last week.

"It's going good," Schottenheimer said, per DallasCowboys.com staff writer Patrik Walker on Tuesday. "I talked to Trevon last week. He's down in Miami doing some training. No timeline for his return, but he had to come back a couple weeks ago to get checked out by the doc.

"All signs are positive."

In 11 games last season, Diggs recorded 42 tackles, 11 passes defended and a pair of interceptions. His knee injury last year added to what has been an unfortunate stretch in his career regarding injuries.

In 2023, Diggs suffered a torn ACL in practice, forcing him to miss the rest of the season after just two games. That injury led to him missing part of training camp, but he was ultimately on the field before Week 1 of the 2024 season.

In November, Diggs missed Weeks 12 and 13 with a groin injury before Dallas shut him down for the rest of the year because of the knee injury, which occurred in the same knee he previously tore his ACL.

While injuries have impacted the last two seasons for Diggs, he's still just 26 years old and only a few seasons removed from his All-Pro year in which he recorded 11 interceptions. He'll look to continue his rehab and return to the best version of himself in 2025.
