Nick Sirianni Says Eagles Need to 'Be Better' at Tush Push After Ban Proposal Failed

Paul KasabianJun 10, 2025

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni told reporters at mandatory minicamp on Tuesday that his team will need to be even better at the Tush Push in 2025.

“Excited about being able to continue to grow that play,” Sirianni said per a team transcript (h/t Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk).

"We have a lot of work to do to continue that success. It just doesn’t happen. The same work that we needed to put into it last year, we’ll even have to be better because we know teams are going to focus on it to try to stop it and we’ll even have to be better at how we coach it and how we perform it and how we execute.

"So that’s really try not to focus too much on things that I can’t control and only focus on the things that you can. That’s our process right now to think about the ways that we’re going to get to get better at running that play and the compliments that come off of it."

The Green Bay Packers submitted a proposal that would ban pushing or pulling a ball-carrier anywhere on the field, essentially banning the Tush Push play. NFL owners voted on the matter during spring meetings in Minneapolis in May, with the proposal needing 24 votes to pass. However, it fell two short, with the final tally being 22-10.

The Eagles have a target on their backs as the defending Super Bowl champions. It's clear that Sirianni is focused on improving his team as the league tries to catch up to the Eagles, and that also involves making the Tush Push an even more successful play.

Philadelphia has done a great job so far. Per ESPN's Kalyn Kahler, the Eagles have converted 85.5 percent of their tush push sneaks (either for a first down or a touchdown) since 2022. But Sirianni thinks the Eagles can do even better as they look for back-to-back Super Bowls.
