Dolphins HC Doesn't 'Give A S--t' About His Feelings on Jalen Ramsey Trade Rumors

Julia StumbaughJun 10, 2025

Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel dismissed a question on Tuesday about his feelings regarding the delayed trade for star cornerback Jalen Ramsey.

"I don't give a s--t about what I feel," McDaniel said when asked if he was surprised about how long it was taking to finalize a trade for Ramsey.

"I don't even really go down that road of, how do I feel about it?" McDaniel said. "My job is to react and control my controllables, and make sure that people are moving in one direction appropriately."

McDaniel continued, "It's about not really caring about all things other than what we're here to do today, which is mandatory mini camp practice one."

Ramsey was not present at Tuesday's mandatory minicamp. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported in April that he and the Dolphins were "mutually set to explore trade options."

Rapoport reported on Sunday that Ramsey was not expected to attend minicamp as he and the Dolphins "continue to work towards a trade."

Ramsey has been productive through two seasons with the Dolphins, but the team is likely looking to avoid the $16.7 million cap hit he is currently set to cost in 2025, per Spotrac.

A pre-June 1 trade would have cost the Dolphins more than $25 million in dead cap while saving the team just $8.6 million, per Over the Cap. Those numbers improved this month to a dead cap hit of $6.7 million and $9.9 million in savings, according to Over the Cap.

Finalizing a trade for Ramsey won't only allow the Dolphins to save a projected $3.2 million in cap space.

For McDaniel, a trade would also end what has been two months of Ramsey-focused questions at press conferences.

Those aren't the only questions McDaniel has expressed dislike about answering this offseason. Tight end Jonnu Smith was also absent from Tuesday's mandatory minicamp practice amid his search for a new contract following his carer-high 884 receiving yards in 2024.

McDaniel said Ramsey's absence was excused, but that Smith had not been excused from practice.

"That's something that we've been in communication, and I don't really need to get into personal matters, totally," McDaniel said about Smith. "I'm not really hiding anything. It's just not about today, and I'm better suited to answer questions about that."

Smith could receive more than $100,000 in fines for skipping the three-day minicamp, per NFL.com's Kevin Patra.

The Dolphins' minicamp, which runs from Tuesday through Thursday, marks the final phase of offseason activities before training camp likely begins in July.
