Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton to Start Rehab Assignment Amid Recovery from Elbow Injuries
New York Yankees star slugger Giancarlo Stanton appears to be closer to returning to the lineup.
Stanton, who has been sidelined for the entire 2025 season so far with injuries in both his elbows, will begin a minor league rehab assignment with the Somerset Patriots on Tuesday night, per Bryan Hoch of MLB.com.
Stanton was diagnosed with epicondylitis, a tendon injury commonly known as tennis elbow, in both his elbows. The injuries hindered his preparation throughout the offseason, and he admitted to growing frustrated ahead of his third round of platelet-rich plasma injections in March.

"Let’s finish the treatment and go from there," Stanton said at the time. "I absolutely hate this. I’m going to get back as soon as possible."
Unfortunately, Stanton's recovery has taken a lot longer than he hoped. He had played through discomfort toward the end of the 2024 season and throughout the playoffs, and he was one of New York's best performers as the team made a run to the World Series for the first time since 2009. He recorded seven home runs and a 1.048 OPS over 14 playoff games and was named MVP of the American League Championship Series.
Despite being without Stanton, the Yankees lead the AL East with a 39-25 record and lead all of MLB with 105 total home runs. Second-year slugger Ben Rice has been New York's primary designated hitter in Stanton's absence, and he's had a strong start to the year with 12 homers and 25 RBI.
Still, getting Stanton back in the lineup would make the Yankees even more dangerous, so the team is certainly pleased with his continued progress in his recovery.
