Terry McLaurin Reportedly Won't Attend Commanders Minicamp Amid Contract Rumors

Doric SamJun 10, 2025

The Washington Commanders reportedly will be without one of their best offensive players during mandatory minicamp this week.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Commanders star receiver Terry McLaurin won't be attending minicamp while he continues to seek a new contract. He had also skipped voluntary OTAs this offseason.

McLaurin is entering the final year of the three-year, $71 million contract extension he signed with the Commanders in 2022 and is set to make $19.6 million. He had attended voluntary OTAs until the week of May 20, when he grew disgruntled with negotiations for a new deal. ESPN's John Keim pointed out that he also skipped voluntary sessions and mandatory minicamp in 2022 before receiving his previous extension.

A third-round pick in the 2019 NFL draft, McLaurin quickly blossomed into one of the most reliable wideouts in the league. He's surpassed the 1,000-yard mark in each of the last five years, and he finished the 2024 campaign with 82 catches for 1,096 yards and a career-high 13 touchdowns. It was his first time recording over 10 touchdowns in a single season, and he was rewarded with second-team All-Pro honors and his second career Pro Bowl selection.

Despite McLaurin's unhappiness with his contract negotiations, it doesn't appear that there's much concern in Washington regarding his status.

"Terry's had a great offseason," Commanders head coach Dan Quinn said previously, per Keim.

Fellow receiver Deebo Samuel, who was in a similar situation to McLaurin in 2022 when he was with the San Francisco 49ers, said, "I understand the business side of the things, and when he stopped coming, I understand his side of the story."

McLaurin will play a key role in helping the Commanders compete for another postseason spot following last year's run to the NFC Championship Game, so it will be important for the team to keep him happy with a new deal he feels he deserves.
