Stefon Diggs' 'Energy' Praised by Patriots HC Vrabel amid Release Rumors After Video

Joseph ZuckerJun 9, 2025

New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel praised the focus and effort level of wide receiver Stefon Diggs early into offseason workouts.

Vrabel told reporters that Diggs looks "engaged" and that "I like his energy."

The biggest story surrounding the four-time Pro Bowler hasn't been his participation in OTAs but rather a video of him on a boat during Memorial Day weekend. In the clip, he appears to share a pink substance with a group of women.

In his first remarks after the story broke, Vrabel said in May the Patriots were aware of the video but refrained from opining too much on the matter.

"Obviously, we want to make great decisions on and off the field," he told reporters. "We're hoping that with our time here on the field today, that when we don't have a script and we're on the call periods, that we're making great decisions. The message will be the same for all our players, that we're trying to make great decisions. Any conversations that I've had with Stefon will remain between him, I and the club."

Only months after he signed a three-year, $63.5 million deal with the team, some wondered whether Diggs' status with New England was already in jeopardy.

Scott Zolak of 98.5 The Sports Hub (via NBC Sports Boston's Justin Leger) reported on May 30 that "there are some other things that I've heard that put some things in question." To that end, the Pats cutting the 31-year-old was at least "on the table."

Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio reported Diggs' deal includes the stipulation that he "will not participate, and is not engaged and will not engage, in any conduct or activity that is illegal, unlawful or immoral." If anything that happened on the boat fell under that description, then the team would be able to get out of the agreement at potentially little cost.

However, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport followed up on June 2 to report the Patriots "have no plans to release" and are looking forward to what he can contribute on the field in 2025.
