Kevin Durant Trade Reportedly to be Start of Suns Likely Resetting Roster amid Rumors

Zach BacharJun 9, 2025

The Phoenix Suns will "likely" reset their roster and start by exploring trades for Kevin Durant during the offseason, according to ESPN's Bobby Marks.

ESPN's Shams Charania previously reported that four to six teams are "seriously interested" in acquiring Durant on the trade market.

Phoenix reportedly attempted to move the star forward prior to the Feb. 6 trade deadline, although he ended up remaining with the organization for the rest of the regular season.

While the Suns missed the playoffs by finishing at No. 11 in the Western Conference standings with a 36-46 record, Durant still showed that he can operate as an elite three-level scorer.

In 62 starts, the 36-year-old averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.2 blocks per game while shooting 52.7 percent from the field and 43.0 percent from three-point territory.

Durant is set to carry a $54.7 million cap hit for the 2025-26 season before hitting unrestricted free agency in 2026, via Spotrac.

Marks noted that the Suns are projected to be above the second luxury-tax apron, which could complicate a possible Durant swap. Phoenix isn't allowed to aggregate contracts in a trade unless it drops below the second apron.

With the Suns reportedly building around star shooting guard Devin Booker moving forward, Durant's future with the organization remains murky.

The rest of Phoenix's roster surrounding Booker could look vastly different next season as well.
