Cristiano Ronaldo Ends Transfer Speculation amid Al Nassr Contract Talks After NL Win

Joseph ZuckerJun 9, 2025

Cristiano Ronaldo intends to stay at Al Nassr as his contract with the Saudi Pro League club nears its June 30 expiration date.

Following Portugal's victory over Spain in the UEFA Nations League final Sunday, Ronaldo said "nothing will change" regarding his club status.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner had a lot of fans speculating when he posted on social media that "this chapter is over." Many took that to mean his time at Al Nassr was ending and he'd sign with another club.

Spanish newspaper Marca reported a Brazilian club might be willing to offer Ronaldo an alternative, one that would allow him to compete in the FIFA Club World Cup. Palmeiras, Flamengo, Fluminense and Botafogo are all competing in the event.

Ronaldo discussed his future over the weekend ahead of the Nations League final. He acknowledged receiving multiple offers but said he didn't envision playing in the Club World Cup, which runs from June 14 through July 13.

Amid all of the uncertainty, Al Nassr sporting director Fernando Hierro maintained the club's desire to extend the 40-year-old's tenure.

Given the general lack of interest in his services when he was a free agent in 2022 and the massive salary he received from Al Nassr, this was the likeliest outcome. Ronaldo's days as a star forward on a top European side are gone, and nobody was going to beat the Saudi club in a bidding war.

Since going to the Saudi Pro League, the Portuguese attacker has scored 74 goals in 77 domestic appearances. He was the Golden Boot winner in each of the last two seasons.
