Mike ChiariJun 7, 2025

Veteran wide receiver Chris Conley is retiring from the NFL to pursue a career in filmmaking.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the news was relayed by Conley's agent, Jonathan Perzley, who added that Conley is going to attend film school at his alma mater, the University of Georgia.

Conley, 32, was originally a third-round pick in the 2015 NFL draft by the Kansas City Chiefs, and he went on to spend 10 seasons in the league.

Appearing in 132 career regular-season games with the Chiefs, Jacksonville Jaguars, Houston Texans, Tennessee Titans and San Francisco 49ers, Conley recorded 226 receptions for 2,998 yards and 15 touchdowns.

His best season came in 2019 with the Jags when he set career highs with 47 catches for 775 yards and five touchdowns.

Conley appeared in 15 games for the Niners last season, recording six receptions for 76 yards and no scores.

Confirming his retirement in an Instagram post, Conley wrote: "When I was a kid I wrote down a set of goals. On that list was 'Play 10 years in the NFL.' Now that this goal has been accomplished, it's time to set sights on something new."

Conley played at Georgia from 2011 to 2014 and graduated from the school with a degree in journalism.

Per Marc Weiszer of the Athens Banner-Herald, filmmaking has long been among Conley's interests and passions. Weiszer noted that Conley wrote, directed and starred in a 26-minute Star Wars fan film entitled Retribution: Darkness Falls prior to his senior season at Georgia.
