Anthony Volpe Suffers Elbow Injury in Yankees vs. Red Sox, Will Undergo Imaging
New York Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe will undergo X-rays and a CT scan after being hit in the left elbow by a pitch during Friday's game against the Boston Red Sox.
The Yankees initially described Volpe's injury as a "left elbow contusion."

Volpe was hit in the arm by an 88.8 mile-per-hour pitch from Red Sox starter Walker Buehler in the bottom of the second inning.
He was replaced in the fourth inning by Oswald Peraza.
Volpe started out the game by hitting his eighth home run of the season off Buehler to drive in two runs during the first inning.
Volpe came up for his second at-bat with the bases loaded in the second, then took Buehler to a 2-2 count before he was hit by a changeup on his sixth pitch faced.
The shortstop did not appear to be wearing an elbow guard at the time. He was checked on by manager Aaron Boone and a trainer before remaining in the game to run the bases.
This isn't the first time Volpe has gone through an injury scare this season. The shortstop told reporters he had felt a "pop" in his left shoulder after diving on a defensive play during a May 3 game against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Volpe sat out the following game, but returned two days later after what Boone said was positive news revealed by X-rays and MRI scans.
The Yankees will now hope for similarly positive news after Volpe undergoes more testing on Friday.
Volpe had batted .237 with a .745 OPS and 34 RBI heading into Friday night's game. The Yankees went into the weekend with a 5.0-game lead over the Rays for the top spot in the AL East.
