Rams' Sean McVay Says Idea of Not Coaching Feels 'Laughable' After Retirement Thoughts
Though he's just 39 years old, Sean McVay has already experienced coaching burnout, and it almost led him to walk away from the game.
Now, the idea of leaving coaching isn't even an afterthought for the Los Angeles Rams head coach. Per The Athletic's Jourdan Rodrigue (h/t Pro Football Talk's Michael David Smith), McVay got a new perspective two years ago after a conversation with former Boise State and Washington head coach Chris Petersen.
“He has helped me see this game and this profession in [such] a totally different lens that the idea of not coaching feels so laughable,” McVay said. “I get so much more joy out of things that I just didn’t give a s--t about before.”

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
McVay has accomplished a lot already, becoming a head coach at just 30 years old, the youngest in NFL history. He was the youngest head coach to reach a Super Bowl when he led the Rams to one in 2019 at just 33 and became the youngest head coach to win a Super Bowl just a few years later when Los Angeles beat the Cincinnati Bengals in 2022.
Considering he accomplished all that before many NFL coaches get their first head coaching job, it's easy to see why he experienced burnout. Now, he'll head into the 2025 season refreshed as he looks to find more success with the Rams.
