Stefon Diggs Reportedly Safe on Patriots Roster, 'No Plans to Release' WR amid Rumors

Doric SamJun 2, 2025

Despite a rumor that the New England Patriots were considering releasing veteran wide receiver Stefon Diggs following his viral boat party video, he reportedly won't be going anywhere.

On Monday, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that the Patriots "have no plans to release" Diggs and "have high hopes for him" after he was in attendance at Monday's OTAs.

Boston sports talk radio host and former New England Patriots quarterback Scott Zolak said Friday that the Patriots releasing Diggs "is on the table." Zolak added that "it's not just the boat," and said there were "some other things that I've heard that put some things in question." He was referring to the social media video featuring Diggs partying on a boat with multiple women around him while appearing to hold an unidentified pink substance.

Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel said last week that the franchise was aware of the video but didn't indicate whether there would be consequences for Diggs.

"It's something we're aware of and obviously we want to make great decisions on and off the field. … Any conversations that I've had with Stefon will remain between him and I and the club," Vrabel told reporters.

Diggs, who is recovering from a torn ACL suffered during the 2024 season while he was with the Houston Texans, signed a three-year, $63.5 million contract with the Patriots in March. He's expected to play a key role in a passing attack led by second-year quarterback Drake Maye, who was selected to the Pro Bowl as an alternate in his rookie year.

Holding onto Diggs gives the Patriots their best chance to turn things around in 2025 after three straight losing seasons.
