Patriots Insider Says Stefon Diggs Release Is 'On the Table' After Viral Boat Video
Boston sports talk radio host and former New England Patriots quarterback Scott Zolak said Friday that it is possible the Pats could release wide receiver Stefon Diggs before he ever plays a down for the team.
Speaking on 98.5 The Sports Hub (h/t Justin Leger of NBC Sports Boston), Zolak said the following about the potential of the Patriots cutting Diggs:
"I came to this show yesterday with the opinion—not opinion, but the knowledge that it is on the table. That it is being thought of. And it's not just the boat. It's not just the boat. There are some other things that I've heard that put some things in question. Are you all-in here?"

Zolak's "boat" comment was in reference to a viral video that made waves on social media this week. In the video, which was taken during Memorial Day Weekend, Diggs was on a boat with several women around him, and he appeared to be holding an unidentified pink substance.
Diggs, who is rehabbing a torn ACL he suffered last season, was not present for Patriots OTAs this week, although he was in attendance at one point last week.
On Wednesday, reporters asked Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel about the video, and he responded by confirming that the organization was aware of the video, saying: "It's something we're aware of and obviously we want to make great decisions on and off the field. ... Any conversations that I've had with Stefon will remain between him and I and the club."
Diggs, 31, signed a three-year, $63.5 million contract with the Patriots in free agency this offseason with the hope that he could step in and be second-year quarterback Drake Maye's top target in the passing game.
After spending his first five NFL seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, Diggs was traded to the Buffalo Bills prior to the 2020 season.
Over his four seasons in Buffalo, Diggs developed a strong rapport with quarterback Josh Allen and put up huge numbers in the process.
Diggs was a four-time Pro Bowler, one-time First Team All-Pro and one-time Second Team All-Pro with the Bills, and he finished his time in Buffalo with 445 receptions for 5,372 yards and 37 touchdowns.
His production dropped sharply during the second half of the 2023 season, though, and his social media activity led some to question whether he still wanted to be in Buffalo.
The Bills moved on from him by trading Diggs to the Houston Texans last offseason, and while he was off to a solid start with 47 catches for 496 yards and three touchdowns, a torn ACL ended his season after only eight games.
Wide receiver was one of New England's weakest positions last season, prompting the Pats to sign both Diggs and Mack Hollins in free agency, and to select Kyle Williams in the third round of the 2025 NFL draft.
If the Pats do make the surprising decision to release Diggs, it would be on the likes of Hollins, Williams, DeMario Douglas, Kendrick Bourne, Kayshon Boutte, Ja'Lynn Polk and Javon Baker to step up at wideout.
