Rockies Become 1st Team in Modern MLB History to Lose 50 Games Before Winning 10 Games

Andrew PetersJun 1, 2025

It's been a historic season for the Colorado Rockies, but not in a good way.

The Rockies lost 5-3 to the New York Mets on Sunday, dropping their eighth consecutive game to move to 9-50 on the season. That marks history, as Colorado is now the first team in the modern era to lose 50 games before winning 10.

The Rockies have won consecutive games just one time this season when they beat the Atlanta Braves on April 30 before downing the San Francisco Giants on May 1. They've had four eight-game losing streaks already this year. Colorado had just two eight-game losing streaks in the past five seasons combined.

Even the 2024 Chicago White Sox, who finished last season 41-121, had a better record than the Rockies through the first 59 games of the season.

At their current win percentage of .153, the Rockies are on pace to finish 24-138, which would be the second-worst record in MLB history and the worst finish in the modern era.

Despite playing in a hitter-friendly ballpark, Colorado has just 50 home runs, good for the fourth-fewest in the majors, and 182 RBI, the fewest in baseball. The Rockies also have the worst batting average in MLB at .215.

On the mound, Colorado's team ERA of 5.59 is better than only the Athletics' 5.68 ERA. The team has given up the sixth-most home runs and has allowed the most runs, also recording the fewest strikeouts in baseball.

The good news for the Rockies is that they have some young talent that could help turn things around in the future. Per Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter, Colorado has the ninth-best farm system with players like pitcher Chase Dollander and outfielder Charlie Condon.

But the prospect of future success doesn't make the historically bad start sting any less for Rockies fans.
