Bryce Harper Can't See Kyle Schwarber 'Playing Anywhere Else' amid Phillies Rumors
Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Bryce Harper can't see teammate and impending free agent Kyle Schwarber signing anywhere else as he plays out the final season of his four-year, $79 million contract, he told the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski clearly wants the 32-year-old Schwarber back, based on comments he made to Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman of the New York Post.

"Well, Schwarbs has been fantastic for us," Dombrowski said (h/t Tim Kelly of On Pattison). "Four years, we've made it to the postseason the previous three, and I hope again we do it this year. He's not only a quality performer, he's a clubhouse [leader] … he's a gamer … he's what you want on a club.
"We would love to keep him as part of the organization for the long term, there's no doubt. We'll see where that takes us. He's putting up big numbers, and I'm sure there will be a lot of other clubs that are interested in him too. But we'd love to keep him part of the organization, and hope that it happens."
Schwarber has largely been exceptional for the entirety of his current deal, hitting 149 home runs while posting a .845 OPS.
So far this season, Schwarber has totaled 18 home runs and 40 RBI while logging a .963 OPS.
As far as the future goes, Philadelphia made an extension offer last offseason, but Schwarber turned it down, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.
"The Phillies offered him an extension during the offseason, but after an initial proposal, talks failed to advance," Rosenthal wrote. "Schwarber was content going year to year after turning down an extension with the Cubs early in his career. And while he wants to stay in Philadelphia, he’s also content playing out his free-agent year. He will be 33 next season, but surely would be in demand on the open market. Since 2022, only Aaron Judge has hit more home runs."
One can guess that Schwarber's value has only gone up given the way he's produced so far this season, perhaps making it harder for Philadelphia to retain him.
Even so, it's clear both sides will be angling for a reunion once the season ends.
