Reggie Wayne Reflects on Jim Irsay's Colts Ownership, 'He Cared About His Players'
Indianapolis Colts wide receivers coach and former wideout Reggie Wayne gave an emotional tribute to former owner Jim Irsay during a press conference on Wednesday.
"He would have done anything for anybody," Wayne said through tears. "He would have given the clothes off his back. I [told the receivers], 'Y'all don't really know him.' And luckily, like all those dudes, they've just been here. So you don't know anything else, but I said he cared about his players. He cared about his team. He cared about the city. And it wasn't just the players, he cared about the people in the building. He was that dude."

Irsay died last Wednesday at the age of 65.
"I am heartbroken to hear about Jim Irsay's passing," former Colts' quarterback and one of Wayne's teammates, Peyton Manning, wrote on social media after Irsay's death. "He was an incredibly generous and passionate owner and I will always be indebted to him for giving me my start in the NFL. His love for the Colts and the city of Indy was unmatched. His impact on the players who played for him will not be forgotten. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and everyone in the Colts community. He will be missed. Jim, rest in peace my friend."
Wayne, 46, has spent four years as the team's receivers coach. Prior to his coaching career he played his entire NFL career with the Colts and was a six-time Pro Bowler and one-time champion.
