Sean McVay Says Rams 'Love' Jalen Ramsey, No 'Meaningful' Trade Talks With Dolphins

Andrew PetersMay 28, 2025

Jalen Ramsey had some of his best years while playing with the Los Angeles Rams and head coach Sean McVay would love to have him back, but the team hasn't made any progress toward trading for him.

McVay said on Wednesday that the Rams and Miami Dolphins have had no "meaningful" trade talks.

“There’s not a whole lot that I have to offer,” McVay said. “There’s a lot of layers with something of that magnitude when you’re talking about the caliber of the player; the compensation that they’re looking for in return. What does that look like? . . . Obviously, we love Jalen. We love Jalen intimately. There would be some things that we would need to be able to do if that was going to be a direction that we went. We certainly haven’t closed the door on that, but there hasn’t been any meaningful, tangible dialogue as of late. But that can always change pretty quickly, as you know.”

Ramsey and the Dolphins agreed mutually to explore trade options this offseason after two seasons together. Ramsey, 30, had 60 tackles, two interceptions and 11 passes defended in 2024. While he hasn't been an All-Pro receiver since 2021, he's still more than capable of helping secure a team's secondary.

While Miami hasn't found a suitor for Ramsey yet, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported earlier this week that he's drawing more interest "than people realize."

"The Miami Dolphins have been looking and open to dealing Jalen Ramsey, and there has been interest in and across the league," Schefter said. "I think probably more than people realize and it certainly sounds like in the next couple of weeks, the Dolphins will be able to find a trade partner for Jalen Ramsey and he will be moving on yet again."

Dolphins' coach Mike McDaniel had little to say on Wednesday when asked for an update on Ramsey.

"Quite honestly, zero has changed since the last time I said anything about him," McDaniel told reporters Wednesday, per Chris Perkins of the South Florida Sun Sentinel. "I'm very much interested in the players that I'm coaching on the field today."

Though McVay said the two sides haven't had substantial trade talks, general manager Les Snead confirmed in April that he had at least spoken to Miami.

"I've had discussions with Miami," he told reporters. "There's a lot of nuances to that situation based on all the things that come with the trade, contracts and things like that. So not sure where they're at in the process."

The seven-time Pro Bowler will not be at Miami's OTAs, per NFL Network's Cameron Wolfe.

The market for Ramsey could pick up after June 1, when his $25.213 million cap charge would drop by $18.468 million. Perhaps that price decrease would lead to the Rams making a move to bring him back to Los Angeles.

NFL Network's Cameron Wolfe noted earlier this month that Ramsey's preferred trade destinations include the Rams, the Atlanta Falcons and the Carolina Panthers.
