Hurricanes Beat Panthers to Extend Series, NHL Fans Salute End of Historic Streak
The Carolina Hurricanes avoided a series sweep in the Eastern Conference Final, defeating the Florida Panthers by the final score of 3-0 in Game 4 on Monday night.
The Hurricanes still trail the series 3-1, although they snapped a streak of 15 consecutive conference final losses.
Logan Stankoven helped Carolina emerge victorious with a goal in the second period off a slick feed from Alexander Nikishin.

Fans were impressed with Carolina for ending the streak.
The Hurricanes didn't have much breathing room despite Stankoven's goal, as they still held a narrow 1-0 edge over the Panthers late in the third period.
Eventually, Carolina gained some more separation after Sebastian Aho scored on an empty net with just over two minutes remaining in the period.
Jordan Staal found the back of the net less than one minute later, sealing the win for the Hurricanes.
Carolina chose to go back to Frederik Andersen at goalie. Andersen initially started the first two games of the series but served as a backup to Pyotr Kochetkov in Game 3.
The move worked, as Andersen racked up 20 saves in the shutout. He also recorded four saves during power plays for Florida.
The Hurricanes kept their season alive with the win and will continue their attempt to take down the reigning Stanley Cup champions, seeking to become the fifth team in NHL history to overcome a 3-0 deficit.
The series now returns to Carolina for Game 5, which will be on Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET.
