"Cruz broke his own record for hardest hit overall in Statcast history, surpassing a 122.4 mph base hit he drove off the outfield wall in Pittsburgh on Aug. 4, 2022," Aldrich wrote. "The blast also broke the record for the hardest-hit home run previously held by Yankees designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton (121.7 mph, Aug. 9, 2018)."
The blast traveled 432 feet, over PNC Park's right field stands and into the Allegheny River. The homer cut the Brewers' lead to 3-1, and the Pirates later held a 5-3 edge after scoring two runs apiece in the sixth and seventh innings. However, Milwaukee bounced back with three runs in the eighth en route to a 6-5 win.
